Creepy Crawlies

Blood Worms

Turtle Water

Daphnia

The thing that mostly surprised me today was the Daphnia. I think that this is what mostly surprised me because, I already knew that there was such thing as blood worms, And I already knew that parasites lived on turtles, but I never knew and never expected that there would be such thing as a protist, I just simply didn't know about it. I was also surprised how similar they looked to a flea.

There is a water crisis today. But the crisis is not about having too little water to satisfy our needs. It is a crisis of managing water so badly that billions of people - and the environment - suffer badly.

Water Facts

  • The Water you drink today has likely been around in one form or another since Dinosaurs roamed the earth, Hundreds of millions of years ago.
  • While 70% of the planet is water we humans can only drink 2.5 of that 70% because the rest of it salt water or ocean based.
  • we can only access .007 of 2.5 because most of it is in glaciers.
  • [The water and sanitation] crisis claims more lives through disease than any war claims through guns.
  • 3.4 million people die each year from water, sanitation, and hygiene-related causes. Nearly all deaths, 99 percent, occur in the developing world.
  • Of the 60 million people added to the world's towns and cities every year, most move to informal settlements (i.e. slums) with no sanitation facilities.
